LOS ANGELES, California — The legendary Sunset Marquis, which has served as a home-away-from-home to rock legends, filmmakers, writers, actors and discerning guests from around the world, and The Agency Group, the world’s leading independent talent booking agency, will be presenting a new monthly series, “Read @ Sunset Marquis.”  On the first Sunday of every month beginning September 7th, guests at Sunset Marquis as well as nearby residents will be invited to partake in an intimate literary experience with today’s most provocative authors.  Each event will be marked by readings and conversations between authors and attendees, surrounded by Sunset Marquis’ lush garden oasis and with the hotel’s relaxing Main Pool Deck serving as the backdrop.

The debut lineup for the “Read @ Sunset Marquis” series will be drawn from The Agency Group’s roster, and include:

On September 7th – Matthew Specktor, is the author of American Dream Machine, a book which The New York Times calls “sprawling, atmospheric…with a feline watchfulness and a poetic sensibility that echoes Bellow’s and Updike’s prose rhythms along with their voracious, exuberant intelligence.”  Spektor’s writing has appeared in The New York Times, GQ, Harper’s, The Paris Review, and numerous other publications and anthologies.  He is a founding editor of The Los Angeles Review of Books.

On October 5th – Asa Akira, the author ofInsatiable: Porn – A Love Story.  In this artful, self-penned memoir, Akira details her personal and professional experiences as a successful porn star.  Filled with hilarious, shocking, and touching anecdotes from her highly unusual life, Akira introduces us to a world not often talked about, and less understood.

On November 2nd – Dr. Kara Cooney, author ofThe Woman Who Would be King: Hatshepsut’s Rise to Power in Ancient Egypt.   Cooney, an Egyptologist and Assistant Professor of Egyptian Art and Architecture at UCLA, also hosted Discovery Channel’s Out Of Egypt.

On December 7th – Eddie Huang, author of Fresh Off the Boat: A Memoir.  In his New York Times best-selling book, the young restaurateur, and former lawyer recalls his roundabout path to becoming a well-known chef and food personality.  A television series based on Fresh Off the Boat was picked up by ABC for its 2014-15 primetime lineup, and will be the first Asian American-focused sitcom in 20 years.
