WEST HOLLYWOOD – The City of West Hollywood has assembled a Design Steering Committee to engage residents and community members in a series of public meetings from May 2014 through September 2014 regarding the implementation of Phase II of the Master Plan for West Hollywood Park.

There will be five public meetings: Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at 6 p.m.; Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at 6 p.m.; Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at 6 p.m.; Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at 6 p.m.; and Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at 6 p.m. Each meeting will take place in the Community Meeting Room at West Hollywood Library, located at 625 N. San Vicente Boulevard.

Phase I of the West Hollywood Park Master Plan created the new West Hollywood Library, which celebrated its grand opening in October 2011. The library is a 48,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art building, which has a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold rating — one of the few municipal buildings in California to have achieved this standard. It also won a Westside Urban Forum Design Award in 2012. The building, located at 625 N. San Vicente Boulevard, houses the West Hollywood City Council Chambers/Public Meeting Room, a Community Meeting Room, and a coffee shop, as well.

Now, Phase II of the West Hollywood Park Master Plan is moving ahead. This includes concepts for additional open park space, development of a new recreation and community center with a gymnasium and park support facilities, and children’s playground areas. A new aquatic facility, with a lap pool and a recreational pool, is planned for the rooftop of the new gym. An AIDS monument is also planned, to be located near the entrance to the West Hollywood Library.

On Monday, March 17, 2014 the West Hollywood City Council approved the creation of a Design Steering Committee for the implementation of Phase II of the Master Plan for West Hollywood Park. The initial Design Steering Committee meeting on Wednesday, May 7, 2014 will provide Committee members with background and history of West Hollywood Park, as well as the current conceptual vision of the selected architects and landscape architects: LPA, Inc., a sustainable design architecture firm, which has completed numerous award-winning public and private buildings throughout Southern California; and Rios Clemente Hale Studio, a multi-disciplinary design firm with a wide range of professional skills including landscape architecture for civic projects. Subsequent meetings from June 2014 through September 2014 will engage the Committee members, design teams, and members of the public to review programming and design elements.

Design Steering Committee meetings will be broadcast on WehoTV, which provides access to City government on Time Warner Cable channel 10 or digital channel 95-203 within the City of West Hollywood. WehoTV is also available online at www.weho.org/wehotv.

The West Hollywood Park project is a component of the City of West Hollywood’s 25th Anniversary Capital Project, established in 2009 to celebrate 25 years of Cityhood with the aim of developing world-class facilities that reward the community and assert permanence to help reflect the City’s dynamic legacy.
