WEST HOLLYWOOD – A celebrity selfie struck gold last Sunday at the 86th Academy Awards when the image was retweeted around the world. The PickUp, West Hollywood’s Free Nighttime Ride, now hosts its own social media selfie contest. The “WeHo PickUp Artist Contest” will run until Saturday, March 15, 2014 and it will be a fun way for PickUp riders to enjoy some creative competition, with a chance to win prizes from local West Hollywood businesses.

PickUp riders who board on Friday, March 7; Saturday, March 8; Friday, March 14; or Saturday, March 15 are encouraged to snap a selfie, alone or with friends, on or in front of The PickUp. To enter the contest, upload the photo (make sure it is creative and fit for Facebook’s terms and conditions) to the contest’s Facebook page at: www.facebook.com/WeHoPickUpContest and be sure to include the hashtag #wehopickup. Participants must be 21 years of age; a complete list of contest rules and prizes is posted on the contest’s Facebook page. Several businesses have joined in to provide prizes, which include:

1. Grand Prize: a $100 shopping spree from Trader Joe’s; dinner for four to Hugo’s; a pop-art portrait on The PickUp’s Facebook cover photo for one month; and a pop-art post on The PickUp timeline.

2. Second Prize: a $100 gift card from Fiesta Cantina; a pop-art post on The PickUp’s Facebook timeline; and a one-night complimentary stay at the Ramada West Hollywood.

3. Third Prize: an LA in a Day bike tour for two from Bikes & Hikes and a pop-art post on The PickUp’s Facebook timeline.

The PickUp, West Hollywood’s Free Nighttime Ride, offers a safe and convenient way to get to a destination in the City of West Hollywood on Fridays and Saturdays from 8 p.m. to 3 a.m. The PickUp is free (and fun!). It travels along Santa Monica Boulevard in a four-mile loop with 10 stops in each direction between Robertson Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue. It arrives at stops every 15 minutes and the music thumps to beat mixes by DJ Derek Monteiro.
