Los Angeles, CA – Garrison Hullinger Interior Design (GHID) is currently showcasing its unique kitchen design work at Street of Dreams in Portland, OR with several homes in the NW Natural Street of Dreams for the third year in a row.
This year the design firm worked on two houses, one modern and one traditional. The varying styles of the homes showcase the firm’s wide breadth of talent and the kitchen in their modern home, Sandhill Crane, stands out as this year’s showstopper.
Designed around how the homeowner will use the space, Sandhill Crane’s open floor plan allows enough room for two islands. Each island has a main purpose, the one closest to the gas range is utilized for prep work, and the other for serving and cleanup. Every aspect of this kitchen is made to be purposefully utilized.
“We tried to provide the family with ample space to work amongst each other while giving each other ‘elbow room,’ yet having the adequate elements of being efficient in each work zone,” said Garrison Hullinger, Principal of GHID. “The cleaning zone has two dishwasher drawers and a larger full-size drawer with all serving ware and dinnerware located in the opposing island drawers so users only need to pivot and take one step when unloading.”
Each island in this kitchen is topped with Caesarstone quartz surfaces, and the bar attached to the second island is topped with walnut.
“This is the fourth Street of Dreams kitchen we have used Caesarstone in, and we are fans of the easy maintenance and lasting durability that Caesarstone slabs provide,” Hullinger said.
The kitchen also features walnut cabinets mixed with battleship gray laminate cabinets resistant to finger prints as well as an appliance garage, perfect for storing toasters, coffee makers and the like when not in use. Every drawer and cabinet has a purpose from the range-adjacent utensil drawers to the trash drawers that open with only a bump of the hip.
The open floor plan of the home was designed to be inviting, and allow families and friends to meet and spend time together in the kitchen. The kitchen flows seamlessly into the dining room, which is accompanied by the wet bar.
GHID already has big plans for the 2016 Street of Dreams as their Custom Home Design department is currently finalizing home plans.
