THE HIGHLY ANTICIPATED PLATINO AWARDS CELEBRATES ITS 6th YEAR WITH A SPECIAL PERFORMANCE OF CIRQUE DU SOLEIL JOYÀ

The spectacular Cirque du Soleil Theater at Vidanta Riviera Maya will host the world’s most notable Ibero- American cinematic talents during the Platino Awards 2019, with a special presentation of the extraordinary Cirque du Soleil JOYÀ

Riviera Nayarit, Quintana Roo, April 30, 2019- Dedicated to the arts and entertainment industries, Grupo Vidanta, leading developer of resorts and tourism developments in México and Latin America, is partnering with the 2019 Platino Awards for the Ibero-American Cinema, showcasing the country’s exclusive performance, Cirque du Soleil JOYÀ, the only one in the world that includes a gastronomic experience.

The awards ceremony will be hosted by Cecilia Suárez and Santiago Segura, featuring outstanding musical performances by artists Sofia Reyes and Lali during the official awards ceremony. In its 6th year, the awards will take place in Mexico as a way to pay tribute to the country’s great film history where some of the world’s best cinematic talent originated, according to the Board of Directors of the Platino Awards.

The prestigious event will be heralded with magnificent celebrations including the opening presentation of Cirque du Soleil JOYÀ in the Cirque du Soleil Theater at Vidanta Riviera Maya, preceding the ceremony.

Recently celebrating its 1,500 show, JOYÀ has captivated more than 800,000 visitors since launching in 2014. The wonderful performance will showcase the extraordinary cultural heritage of Mexico to the greatest talents of the film industry including Anna Favela (Italy) who starred in "Luis Miguel: The Series"; Manolo Cardona (Colombia) of "Narcos"; Imanol Arias (Spain) of acclaimed Spanish series "Cuéntame" and Lidia San José (Spain) from the Netflix original series "Paquita Salas”; and, of course, Mexico’s internationally recognized actors Juan Manuel Bernal, Mariana Treviño, Cecilia Suárez, Vadhir Derbez, Sebastián Zurita, and many other personalities of the Mexican seventh art.

This year, México is strongly represented across the categories with nominations including: the critically-acclaimed "ROMA" with nine nominations in eight different categories; Alfonso Cuarón nominated as "Best Director"; "La Casa de las Flores" and "Narcos" as "Best Ibero-American Miniseries or Television Series"; Diego Boneta and Diego Luna also nominated for “Best Actor in a Miniseries or TV Series "; and Cecilia Suárez nominated for "Best Actress in a Miniseries or TV series”, among others.

These awards recognize professionals in the film industry whose films come from the Iberian Peninsula, Latin America and the Caribbean.
